Bowen moves are made over muscles, tendons and ligaments throughout the body. A fine layer of fascia runs throughout the body. When a Bowen move is made, short wait times are taken to allow the body time to absorb the move. The fascia transmits vibrations through the body making it a critical part of the process.
Fascia is a fine layer of connective tissue that runs throughout the body. It encases organs, muscles, tendons, ligaments and cells, allowing them to move freely beneath its sheath of fibres.
Maintaining healthy fascia is done by moving the body (exercise), hydration and managing stress and injury. If the fascia is restricted, so are the corresponding muscles, tendons and ligaments encompassed by it. This can have larger, far-reaching impacts and explains why an injury or imbalance in a lower limb can directly impact the neck or shoulders. Afterall, everything is connected!
The vagus nerve is responsible for sensory, motor and parasympathetic functions within the body. Stimulation of the parasympathetic system directly impacts, stress, anxiety, blood pressure, heart rate and digestion. The vagus nerve sends signals through the body to directly affect gut function, anti-inflammatory response and stimulates relaxation.
The vagus nerve is stimulated by specific Bowen moves, making it an important part of the healing process.
